Sleepys - The Mattress Professionals

In the late 1920s, Louis Acker stood on Ellis Island and prepared for the American dream. In 1931, Louis opened his first mattress store in Brooklyn, New York and taught his son Harry all about the mattress trade. Harry worked hard tying knots and stitching mattresses by hand, dreaming of comfort yet to be discovered.

Two years after his father’s death, Harry decided to use what he learned hand-making mattresses with his father and expand the Brooklyn mattress store. He dreamed of his store being the best place to get a mattress, with the largest selection, lowest prices, and most knowledgeable staff of professionals anywhere. In 1957, Sleepy’s was born.

Harry worked day and night to make his dream a reality. He filled his stores with the best assortment of quality brand-name mattresses so that customers of all sleep styles and comfort levels would be sure to find the perfect bed for them. He created Sleepy’s famous price guarantee, which promised the best price a hundred percent of the time. Most importantly, Harry hired only the best salespeople and trained them not just about mattresses but also the value of a great night’s sleep. Harry put his Mattress Professionals on a mission to make the world a better place to sleep. And they did.

Present-day Sleepy's continues to blaze new paths and discover new levels of comfort, leaving a smiling trail of sound sleepers in their wake. Now the largest privately-owned and operated specialty mattress retailer in America, the Mattress Professionals are supplying sleep expertise from more than 1,000 retail showrooms across the Northeast and beyond.

For those who crave sleep without the showroom, the sleek new sleepys.com makes it easier than ever to navigate to the perfect mattress right from home. Best of all, Sleepy’s distribution network can now deliver comfort to bedrooms anywhere in the country.

A lot has changed at Sleepy’s since Harry’s first Brooklyn store, but the mission has stayed the same. The Mattress Professionals won’t rest until they deliver healthy sleep solutions to every bedroom in America.

And our bedtime story is far from over.
